Aloe Processing Tools

The two scoops were used when boiling or cooking aloe juice. During the 19th century aloe was cooked or brought to the boil in an aloe cooking pot to get a high concentration of aloe for export. Local people made the scoops from iron with wooden handles. When the aloe juice had reached the required concentration, it was scooped into wooden crates and covered with paper. When cooled off the thickened juice will turn into a hard resin.
